Sarah Turner was a curator and the project manager of Houseguest. Houseguest was a residency program hosted on Pioneer Courthouse Square (PCS), Portland Oregon’s largest and most accessible public plaza. Also known as Portland’s living room, PCS covers 40,000 square feet in downtown Portland and hosts over 190,000 monthly visitors. Houseguest residents had the opportunity to reimagine this space through creative pursuits that vary from larger-than life-installations to spontaneous, intimate performances and everything in-between. Pioneer Courthouse Square sought Houseguests of all stripes. We hosted four projects by artists, collectives and/or collaborators throughout 2016-2017 Each Houseguest worked on-site at the Square for a long weekend, facilitating relationship-based, socially-engaged interventions that inspire and catalyze interaction among PCS' diverse publics. Houseguest was funded in part by Oregon Community Foundation, The James & Marion Miller Foundation, and Pioneer Courthouse Square.
